The 22nd annual Rattlesnake Ramble was a huge success, raising thousands of dollars for rescue and climbing charities. 114 adults signed up, and 105 runners finished the full course.
A 10-kid wave started first, and Declan Walsh three-peated as the Boys' Champion in a blistering time of 13:50. Leland Burrell was second, and Calvin Miller was third. Aurelia Franz won for the Girls in 16:30. Wren Mering and Charlotte Walz rounded out the Girls' podium.
Next up was the men's race, won by multiple-times runner-up Kid Kennedy (27). He used his ridiculous descending skills to pass Michael Reese, aka Spicoli, who led at the top of the Eldorado Trail climb. Kid Kennedy needed to distance himself from last year's runner-up Aedan McFall (25), who repeated as runner-up, and ageless wonder Galen Burrell (46), who was twenty years older than these two young kids. The battle raged from start to finish with no quarter given, none granted and the trio finished within ten seconds of each other. Alas, the young legs prevailed.
A stellar new entrant marked the women's field: Morgan Moran went wire to wire for the victory, but in hot pursuit were Michaella Conery, and Tegan Brown.
Craig Randall finished 7th and defended his Master's title yet again in 31:04, helped in no small measure by Galen making the overall podium. Newcomer Ella Nuttleman won the Women's Masters in 38:54 and finished 4th overall.
We had only one injury this year and it's the same guy who keeps getting injured! So much so that RMR has given him a punch card. He was attended to at the race finish and all indications are that he will pull through. "It's amazing this guy even finished," was one comment that was heard inside his head. On the plus side this dude is keeping those RMR guys in business! Without me this dude, they’d have to cut staff.
